7th and 8th Grade Social Studies
7th grade social studies is designed to, “study the world from the Age of Exploration to contemporary times in order to understand the implications of increased global interactions.” 8th grade Social Studies is designed to, “connect students to the enduring themes and issues of our past and equips them to meet the challenges they will face as citizens in a state, nation and an interdependent world.” Dream of a Nation helps teachers show their students history’s relevance in the contemporary world by highlighting 21st century issues and proposing creative and hopeful solutions for our society’s most pressing needs. All twelve chapters of this book are applicable to 7th and 8th grade Social Studies and address “patterns of change and continuity with a focus on conflict and cooperation, economic development, population shifts, political thought and organization, cultural values and beliefs and the impact of environment over time.” They address the social studies strands your students need to master: history, environmental literacy, economics and financial literacy, civics and governance and culture. To help guide your students through this material please use these chapter questions, which address all levels of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy from recall to creation.
