Looking at Immigration In a Different Light
If the battle over state bills attempting to deal with illegal immigration tells us anything, it’s that the federal immigration system is broken. Neither current American citizens nor the 11 million undocumented immigrants living here, who have no means to ever obtain citizenship, are served by the system we currently have in place. In polls the majority of Americans favor putting undocumented individuals on a path to citizenship if they agree to learn English, pay a fine, and pay back any taxes they owe the US government. That’s a practical solution that’s fair for everyone and represents the values that make America such a desirable place to live.
