Re-Building Greensburg, Kansas

What Can I Di?

Think a presidential election is only time to vote? The truth is, state and local politics probably affect your day-to-day life more than a presidential race.  Make sure you vote in your local elections and know who and what you're voting for.  Voting in these elections is a great way to make change and innovation happen in your community.

Get Involved and Innovate in Your Own Community   Check your newspaper and government websites for local committee or town hall meetings. At the meeting, listen and voice your opinion on the issues being discussed.  Point to success models of innovation in other communities that might help your own.

Q. What if FEMA made a policy to rebuild the same way as Greensburg, Kansas?

A. After a tornado virtually wiped out Greensburg, the city of under 1000 people built over 100 new environmentally-friendly (LEED-certified) homes. If this standard was used after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, America would have over 350,000 more LEED buildings.
