National Coalition for the Homeless
The National Coalition for the Homeless is a national network of people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, activists and advocates, community-based and faith-based service providers, and others committed to a single mission: To prevent and end homelessness while ensuring the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met and their civil rights protected.
As the largest city in America, homelessness is an acute problem in New York City. With the work of Common Ground and the Jericho Project – a smaller non-profit especially dedicated to veterans – homelessness has been reduced by 47% throughout all five boroughs.
Working in Philadelphia, Project H.O.M.E. works to eliminate causes of homelessness by providing neighborhood-based, affordable housing and other services like economic development, environmental programs, education, and health care.
The Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness
Using government funding The Chicago Alliance coordinates and distributes over $50 million in grants annually, focusing on providing services to transition the homeless into permanent housing.
Street Sense is a newspaper in large cities across the country that is primarily staffed by the city’s homeless. The newspaper’s mission is to raise awareness and provide a source of employment and self-sufficiency for the homeless poor.
