DON Launch Release

Over 60 Organizations and Visionaries Join Forces for a Shared Dream

Asheville, N.C., January 20, 2012 – Launching a major effort to elevate awareness and inspire action related to some of the most pressing economic, social, and environmental issues of our time, SEE Innovation announces Dream of a Nation - a book and project dedicated to bold solutions and quickening the pace of change.

More than 60 leading thinkers and civil society organizations are participating in the project including Alice Walker, NASA astronaut Jerry Linenger, Paul Hawken, Geoffrey Canada, Al Gore, Dr. Holly Atkinson, along with such organizations as the Union Of Concerned Scientists, Bipartisan Bridge, Citizen Effect, Common Cause, Free Press, Veterans For Peace and more than 50 others. The work brings complex issues to life and explores how we must put politics aside and share the task of rebuilding the economy, strengthening community, re-imagining business, removing money from politics, re-establishing more media integrity, revitalizing education, repowering America, ending poverty, waging peace and much more. With a year full of campaign slogans and slanders ahead of us, it is important to focus on solutions that bring us together.

In reference to the project Alice Walker writes, “The most important thing humanity can do is believe in itself. That we can grow, we can change, we can rouse ourselves in time to make big changes happen. Dream of a Nation encourages movement in this direction. It offers hundreds of ideas and examples of how smart, committed, and daring we can be.”

This project is more than three years in the making and offers incisive answers to the nation’s most pressing problems – assembling them into a sourcebook and web platform for social action. The project will also be coordinating “share your dream” citizen contests, educator resources, and an ongoing national tour.

“This project is a story in and of itself – with so many diverse organizations collaborating to offer a powerful unifying vision for progress,” says project developer Tyson Miller.

Dream of a Nation invites everyone to share in the work and the rewards of daring to dream once more.

Booking: Musical and spoken word artists and partner organizations available to join Dream of a Nation staff for any interviews or bookings.
