Teacher Education

Dream of a Nation serves many purposes for Teacher Education programs. First, Dream of a Nation can be used as a resource for education students to build lesson plans based on current events which align to their curricular standards. Dream of a Nation can educate primary education majors on civic, economic and environmental issues which they can then transform into age appropriate lesson plans. Secondary teachers of social studies and science will find applicable lesson plans and chapter questions available on our website—which they can adapt to meet the particular needs of their future students. Secondary English teaching students can critique the Common Core aligned lessons plans or implement those lessons in their student teaching. In addition, Dream of a Nation contains an entire chapter devoted to the current crisis in public education in America: Chapter 5, Aiming for the Best in Education. Professors of education can use the articles in this chapter to introduce to their students the current breadth of opinion surrounding issues in public education and discuss the implications for in-service public educators.  Use our questions for chapter 5 to help guide your class discussion, or our whole book questions to have your students craft lesson plans based on Dream of a Nation articles.
